CCCS CELEBRATES CHINESE NEW YEAR WITH A FANTASTIC LUNCH

CCCS recently hosted a delicious lunch to honour the recent Chinese New Year, with 2024 being the Year of the Dragon.

The celebration explored the background and culture of Chinese New Year celebrations, the language and traditions.

The Nursery children were treated to a master class of dumpling-making, courtesy of one of our Nursery parents. The children learned the sequence of how to make the dumplings pressing, rolling, turning, rolling and then filling the dumplings, to be crimped and ready for cooking.

Reception discovered many facts about China, recreating the Great Wall in our classroom and reading a wide range of texts. The children also made dragon masks.

Year 1 joined their Year 2 friends to enjoy a traditional dragon dance and a lantern-making workshop.

All the children then sat at decorated tables to enjoy a wonderful Chinese meal with a Fortune Cookie in the Dining Room.

Richard Murray thanked Peter Kilby and the kitchen staff for preparing a Chinese feast and said, “It is important to celebrate other cultures and inspire children to learn more about the wider world and how people in other countries and cultures live.”

Kung Hei Fat Choi (gōng xǐ fā cái) is a traditional Chinese New Year greeting meaning: Congratulations and best wishes for a prosperous New Year!; Happy New Year!
