Orchestral Workshop with Nicholas Cleobury
Our most advanced instrumentalists gathered in the Walton Hall on Saturday for a workshop with Nicholas Cleobury. Mr Cleobury is globally renowned as a conductor, having spent his career working with orchestras and opera companies around the world, as well as teaching conducting at the Royal Academy of Music.
We spent the morning tackling two movements from the Capriol Suite by Peter Warlock (a Christ Church alumnus), which allowed the boys to explore a range of different playing styles. It was excellent to hear everything come together under Mr Cleobury's direction, with some really valuable work done on sight-reading and ensemble skills. It's so important to find opportunities outside the busy school week to bring our instrumentalists together, and I was delighted by the way in which they handled this demanding repertoire.
