Safety First - Learning how to avoid an unplanned trip to the hospital

Earlier today, Form 6 visited the JR hospital to take part in the annual I.M.P.S (Injury Minimization Programme for Schools) session. The boys were first lucky enough to be able to visit the Emergency Department of the hospital (thankfully not as patients!) where they were shown some equipment that may be used if you visit the children’s ED.

They then headed to the Learning Centre where they had a practical first aid session, learning the basics of CPR, how to use a defibrillator and how to put someone in the recovery position. The morning ended with a session in the classroom, learning more about how to keep safe and avoid injuries whilst cycling, playing and in the home. This visit was, as ever, extremely enjoyable and very useful for the boys. Mme Loyer and Mrs Simpkins were very impressed with how sensibly the boys behaved and by their mature approach to this important visit. I hope they were able (as they were instructed to by the trainers) to go home and practise putting family members into the recovery position!
