It was a baptism of fire, as the opposition was Herts, former national champions at this level. Although the Oxford team came off second best on this occasion, it was a great learning curve with a view to their upcoming fixtures: the classic ‘Varsity’ match versus Cambridge later this month, followed by intensive training throughout the summer, leading up to representing the county at the National Championships weekend at the England National Baseball Complex in September.
