Whole School Attends Remembrance Assembly in Cathedral

Pre-Prep and Nursery joined the Prep School for Cathedral Assembly for a Remembrance service which included poetry read by the Heads of Houses and the Last Post played by Laurence Peverall, in Form 8.
As the children filed through Tom Quad they paused to look at the display of ceramic poppies near the entrance to the Cathedral, which represent the lives lost from Christ Church in the First World War.
Introducing a poem by Leslie Coulson, who was killed in action in 1916, Headmaster Richard Murray said: “In this poem he (Leslie Coulson) sits in the trenches and thinks of his former life – the innocent pleasures of an upbringing in the beautiful countryside – and now realises what a horrific world he has found himself in. I wonder how many lovely experiences you can remember – lovely experiences which he was never to experience again.” Towards the end of the service, senior boys read out the names of the 22 Old Boys who died in the First and Second World War.
