Music News - We're Unlocked!

Posted on 12th Mar, 2021

It's been wonderful to be together again this week; to hear instruments being played from countless different directions, to see the peripatetic staff again and most of all to hear singing everywhere!

Martin And Hamish have been awarded places as horn-players in the National Children's Orchestra (congratulations, Mr Somerville!) This is a terrific recognition of their brass skills, and it's so exciting that they will be able to play in this world-renowned organisation.

We have also just appointed the first ever Simon Arnold Scholars, four boys who will receive free keyboard tuition as a recognition of their hard work and their membership of Worcester and Pembroke Choirs. Simon Arnold is an Old Boy who was an Exeter Chorister at CCCS, and we are delighted that he has established such a generous scheme to help support our musicians. We're hoping to be able to welcome Mr Arnold into school next term, so that he can meet his first set of Scholars in person.

Last but by no means least, the boys in Pre-Prep held an informal concert on Thursday to celebrate the wonderful musical progress made by so many boys during the lockdown.

It was fantastic to get stuck into some enthusiastic warm-ups, to hear cheerful singing - live! - and to listen to some very talented instrumentalists, too.

Well done, everyone... it's been thrilling to hear you all again. Ms Biddell
