The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch

Since January, Reception have had the challenge of adapting to online learning and I am so proud of their achievements in such unusual circumstances.
They have been working hard over the last three weeks on our topic ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. The boys have enjoyed Story Time, listening to all the books in the series. We began with the wintery ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Christmas’ which timed perfectly with the snowfall in January. I took my Teams lesson and camera outside and we hunted for icicles, snow, ice and other ‘wintery words’. We ended the series with the ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Picnic’ and the boys learnt to make their own sandwiches with their own choice of fillings.
Over the weeks, the boys particularly enjoyed designing and making their own lighthouses with a pack of resources I posted to their homes. Their ideas were superb and very individual, with special features including Pizza ovens and dinosaur patrols! The boys had great fun experimenting with making pulley systems for their own lunch baskets, to learn more about forces, and wrote instructions and descriptions that would be suitable for any Lighthouse Keeper’s Handbook. In learning more about the world, we learnt the names of the five oceans and the history of lighthouses.
