If you go down to the Woodland School Today...

We hosted a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at our Woodland School which is situated in the corner of Merton Field, the most intensely lovely part of Christ Church Meadow and, at this time of year, the clouds of cow parsley swirl generously under the vivid greens of the glistening trees.
Paths had been cut through the woods and little clearings under the boughs had been created so that small groups could picnic together within the constraints of Coronavirus regulations. It was lovely to see young people and their parents enjoying life again in a safe and beautiful environment - where we released our butterflies into the woodland.
We hunted for Teddy Bears, following footprint trails and we searched out bugs and butterflies. Our families brought picnics and Mr Kilby, our Chef, made a ginormous cake which was decorated by Mrs Ahluwalia, our Classroom Assistant.
Some guests picnicked on the edge of the playing fields, under the branches of the trees which run along the margin of the wood. From here there is an incomparable view of Merton Tower with Christ Church Cathedral and Tom Tower beyond. This scene must be one of the finest in England, such a harmonious collection of beautiful buildings viewed so close at hand from such a pastoral setting.
