House Music Competition 2021

Posted on 28th May, 2021

House Music 2021 was always going to be a little ‘different’, but not even the most enthusiastic supporter could have expected this year’s final to be such a triumphant event.

The boys put on an afternoon of joyous musicianship, some sublime performances, and the liveliest House Songs I have ever seen - and for the first time ever we were able to broadcast the event, offering a Cathedral livestream brilliantly masterminded by Joseph Denby.

Over 200 auditions were offered in the first half of term, with a special mention going to Dominic in Form 7 for the highest number bagged by an individual pupil. Amongst the Debussy, Kabalevsky and Bartók there were dozens of cautious renditions of ‘Hot Cross Buns’, plus some unusual instruments making their Music Competition debut (the húlúsī causing a particular stir).

Adjudicator Alex Hodgkinson praised the spirited performances, mature musicianship and camaraderie evident at CCCS, and I too am so grateful for everyone’s hard work and support over half a term of preparations for House Music. Here’s to 2022...  Sophie Biddell
