Debating Competition

Posted on 4th Feb, 2020

On Tuesday, three boys from Form 6 visited The Oratory School near Reading for a day of debating and competition.

The day got off to a good start for CCCS boys Henry, Dominic and Sebastian when they took up the debating mantle and threw themselves in to a carousel of activities with great confidence and polish. The fun got underway initially with a balloon debate, as well as an informal version of ‘Just a Minute’ and a mock debate.

Following a tasty lunch in the school’s dining hall, all of the participating children spent time preparing their arguments for the afternoon debates. CCCS boys faced the tough task of having to oppose the motion that ‘Books are better than television’. After a strenuous and articulate round of debates, where CCCS boys did themselves extremely proud, everyone was treated to a delicious tea, before home time. Our boys rose to the occasion by offering a set of strong and well-reasoned arguments which they advanced with great gusto, vigour and passion.

Congratulations go to Henry, Dominic and Sebastian!
