CCCS Old Boy, Toby Jones, Receives OBE in the 2021 New Year’s Honours List

The School was delighted to learn that the actor and CCCS Old Boy, Toby Jones (CCCS, 1971 – 1979) was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama in the 2021 New Year’s Honours List.

The television, film, and stage actor, perhaps best known among Harry Potter fans as the voice of Dobby, the house-elf, was a pupil at Christ Church Cathedral School until he was 11.

Paul Wavell, who was Deputy Headmaster at CCCS at the time, also remembered his dramatic talents.

"I was very proud to see how well he has done. From early on, with his father being a fairly well-known actor himself, it was obvious he had talents but he was also pretty good all-round," he said.

"Then when he left us and went on to Abingdon, it became even more obvious - it was in the genes."

Mr Wavell, who was also Head of Sport, added that Mr Jones had also shown some talent as a cricketer.

We offer Mr Jones our warmest congratulations.
