Worcester Choir has held its first Open Afternoon to enable chorister hopefuls to experience the life of a Worcester Chorister. Sixteen boys, both from within CCCS and beyond, joined Worcester College’s Director of Chapel Music, Tom Allery, for the afternoon.

Mr Allery described the benefits of being in the Choir whilst current Form 8 Worcester Choristers, Magnus Garson and Harry Trowbridge (pictured), explained how their time in the Choir had helped them win Music Scholarships to Radley College and St Edward’s respectively.

After the talk, the boys and their parents were taken on a tour of the College, which included the beautiful gardens and ornate eighteenth century College Chapel. Everyone enjoyed a delicious tea before the boys joined the current choristers for a rehearsal and their parents watched a slide show of the Choir’s recent tour of Italy. Everyone came together for Evensong, in which prospective choristers sang the Magnificat, “Tell out, my soul”, and an arrangement of “Lord of the Dance” by John Barnard.

Mr Allery is holding voice trials for September’s Form 4 intake on Thursday 4th May at 9.05 am - 12 noon in the William Walton Centre, at CCCS. To register, please contact Mrs Clare James either by email or on 01865 242561.
