Cathedral Choir - 2016 North America Tour
Posted on May 9, 2016
The Cathedral Choristers spent the Easter holidays on tour in North America, visiting Alexandria, Washington, Davidson, Chicago, Minneapolis and Toronto.
They had one day to recover from a busy round of services on Easter Sunday, before finding themselves at Heathrow early on Tuesday morning and setting off on an Airbus A380 (which caused almost more excitement than the transatlantic trip itself).
The Cathedral Choir gave five concerts to packed churches, performing a programme based around links to Christ Church. Two of the concerts were broadcast on the radio, and at every one the audiences gave rapturous standing ovations. As well as staying in some lovely hotels the boys also got to experience home-stays with local families, which seemed to involve being showered with sweets and chocolate, sitting in jacuzzis and watching a lot of Star Wars.
There were long coach journeys and some long waits at airports, but these were easily counterbalanced by wonderful and unforgettable experiences: the Smithsonian, the Waterpark of America, Ripley's Aquarium of Canada, the largest mall in the US, several science museums, and the opportunity for the choristers to eat their own body-weight in pizza on a daily basis. Above all the music was terrific - as it should be - and the warmth of our North American hosts made everyone feel instantly at home on each leg of the trip.
Congratulations to the Cathedral Choristers on a superb tour!
