The aim of our school is to produce a broad and balanced curriculum that ensures that boys leave us at 13+ with a solid base from which to move to GCSE and A level. Essentially the school operates a class-based structure until the end of Year 4. From Year 5, boys are taught by subject specialists.
The emphasis from Reception to Year 4 is weighted towards English and Maths. The foundation subjects are taught through topic work. As children move up through the year groups, increasingly some lessons are led by specialist teachers. As well as the core subjects of English, Maths and Humanities taught by class teachers, the other specialist taught subjects are outlined below.
Nursery, Reception & Year 1 (Music)
Year 2 (Music, French, PSHE)
Year 3 (As above, Design Technology, Games, Science)
Year 4 (As above)
From Year 5, specialist teachers take individual subjects which include: English, Mathematics, Science, Art, Design Technology, French, Games, Geography, History, ICT, Latin, Music, Physical Education, Religious Studies.
Pupils from Christ Church have established an enviable reputation for courtesy, sociability and commitment at their senior schools. Within the Oxford area boys have gained places during recent years at Abingdon, Magdalen College School, Radley and St Edward’s; further afield they have moved to, for example, Bloxham, Cheltenham College, Cokethorpe, Eton, Harrow, Marlborough College, Oundle, Rugby, Uppingham and Wellington College.
Those seeking awards may be found at virtually any of the country’s leading schools, including Eton, Harrow and Winchester. Boys are prepared, whenever appropriate, for Academic Scholarships and for awards in Art, Drama, Music and Sport. On average a third of the boys or more win senior school awards.
