Main School (ages 7-13)

In Year 3, boys study English, Maths, History, Geography and RS with their form teacher. They also have specialist teachers for Science (in the laboratory), French, Music, Art, DT and IT, as well as four sessions of games per week. The pattern is similar in Year 4, but from the following year all subjects are specialist-taught and Latin is introduced. Boys are encouraged to achieve the highest level that they can - there is daily homework and regular feedback about attainment through Grades Cards as well as termly reports.
Testing is through standardised and school-based materials, and boys continue until the end of Year 8 when they pass into their chosen senior school through the Common Entrance exams, although almost every year some boys prepare for Academic Scholarship exams instead. There is a wide choice of after-school activities available to boys in Main School and these are strongly supported so that our leavers are well-rounded and ready for the next challenge in their education.
Boys who are interested in becoming choristers usually do so in Years 3 or 4.
